Back in the early 80’s, these colorful and heartfelt conversations began in San Francisco by social entrepreneur Sami Sunchild. She began hosting breakfast conversations for her guests at the Red Victorian Bed and Breakfast Peace Center on historic Haight-Ashbury which continued past the day she died. She prized meaningful hospitality techniques and motivational art centered on mindfulness as to inspire a broad audience in efforts to bring global peace. Building on her acute observations, she developed a unique communication and conversation style. By building awareness through conversations related to topics that matter in people’s lives, Sami crafted the “Six ingredients to a Good Conversation” peace card.
Peaceful World Conversations are opportunities to share and reflect on our life journeys. They are a time to replenish, recharge and renew. They are an opportunity to grow in self-knowledge, to ask meaningful questions, and to co-create new possibilities together. We come together to share our cultures, our stories and our struggles as we deepen our understanding of each other and ourselves. We value ideas on how we contribute to the well-being and the development of ourselves and our communities.
We hope to discover our commonalities and celebrate our differences. Given the conflicts happening in the world, it is not always easy to live with a vision of hope. Our intention is to build trust and friendship into action in a meaningful way. We come together to learn from each other about what is working, about what mistakes we have made and to offer each other help while becoming clearer in our vision and purpose in the world. We intend that participation in Peaceful World Conversations will enable each of us to deepen our capacity to affect meaningful positive change in our communities.
“Building peace one conversation at a time.”
