2016 Grantee
Headstand’s mission is to serve students who are growing up in poverty, experiencing trauma and stress-conditions; to empower themselves through mindfulness and yoga practices.
How the program contributes to peace and social consciousness:
Headstand (a fiscally sponsored project of Community Initiatives) empowers at-risk K-12 students to combat trauma and stress through mindfulness and yoga. Their integrated programs enhance students’ capacity for academic learning and promote healthy social and emotional wellbeing.
Headstand works with the students and their teachers by providing them with stress-reduction, yoga and mindfulness strategies in order to increase a sense of wellbeing and sustainability in schools serving low-income populations.
How we collaborated
In 2016, Katherine Priore Ghannam, Founder and Executive Director of Headstand co-facilitated a peaceful world conversation with our 2016 grantee, No Bully on the topic, Teaching Peace in Schools. She also attended our conversation on Shared Experiences with her newborn baby girl.
